KILIMO BORA PROJECT



Kilimo Bora is a sustainable agribusiness initiative enhanced by AI and funded by UK Aid and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through the GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation. The project supports smallholder farmers in Tanzania by leveraging modern technology to strengthen productivity, climate resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Kilimo Bora focuses on integrating advanced digital tools, AI-driven insights, and improved agricultural practices to help farmers respond effectively to the challenges of climate change. By utilizing AI-powered satellite imagery, the project analyzes soil health, monitors crop conditions, and provides farmers with real-time weather information. These insights enable farmers to make informed decisions about planting, irrigation, and harvesting reducing risks caused by unpredictable weather patterns.

 The project also offers personalized agricultural recommendations, empowering farmers to adopt climate-resilient techniques that enhance yields, improve soil quality, and promote long-term sustainable farming practices. Initially implemented in Dodoma and Singida, Kilimo Bora has since expanded to additional regions, including Manyara, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Tanga.

These regions were prioritized due to their high vulnerability to climate change and the need to strengthen support for smallholder farming communities.

PROJECT GOAL

Kilimo Bora aims to:

·        Improve productivity and income among smallholder farmers

·        Promote climate-smart and sustainable farming methods

·        Strengthen agricultural value chains through digital innovation

·        Equip farmers with the knowledge and tools required to adapt to climate change

PROJECT IMPACT

Kilimo Bora continues to make significant progress in transforming smallholder agriculture in Tanzania. To date, the project has achieved:

51,707 farmers reached across Dodoma and Singida

59,556 personalized advisory messages delivered to support better farm-level decision-making

527 agribusinesses engaged, strengthening supply chains and improving access to essential inputs

TZS 7,360,402 in revenue generated, demonstrating strong adoption and sustainability of digital solutions

These milestones highlight the power of digital agriculture in empowering farmers, improving productivity, and enhancing climate resilience at scale.

Kilimo Bora is committed to expanding its reach to even more regions, integrating advanced climate analytics, strengthening market linkages, and continuing to support smallholder farmers. Through technology, knowledge-sharing, and innovation, the project aims to build a more resilient and sustainable agricultural future for Tanzania.
